The Pre-Teen Mississippi Scholarship and Recognition Program was held recently at the Ramada Hotel in Tupelo, MS. Several of Mississippi’s best and brightest top female students, ages 7 to 12 years of age, competed for over $5,000.00 in educational bonds, prizes and awards. They were also vying for the opportunity to represent the State of Mississippi at the 2006 Pre-Teen America National Competition, to be held July 2-7, 2006 at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, AL. There they will be competing for over $25,000.00 in educational bonds, prizes and awards.

The participants competed in seven evaluation categories. 1) Academic Achievement, 2) Volunteer Service to Church and Community, 3) School Honors and Activities, 4) Development of Personal Skills and Abilities, 5) General Knowledge, 6) Communicative Ability and 7) “On-Stage” Acknowledgment of Accomplishments.

The following are Senior Division titleholder and Runner-Ups:

2005 Pre-Teen Mississippi (Sr. Division): Claudia Taylor - 12 years old from Southaven, MS.

1st Runner-Up (Tied): Ellen Belk - 11 years old from Coila, MS and Kimberly Page - 12 years old from Ellisville, MS

2nd Runner-Ups (Tied): Atuuman Benefield - 11 years old from Myrtle, MS and Anne Kay Frierson - 10 years old from Picayune, MS

3rd Runner-Ups (Tied): Primrose Mangilog - 10 years old from Ocean Springs, MS and T’Keya Davis - 11 years old from Walls, MS and Taylor Sandridge - 11 years old from Coldwater, MS and Mallory Griffith - 10 years old from Eupora, MS
