The Pre-Teen Louisiana Scholarship and Recognition Program was held recently 
at the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA. One Hundred Fifty (150) of 
Louisiana’s best and brightest top female students, ages 7 to 12 years of 
age, competed for over $5,000.00 in educational bonds, prizes and awards. 
They were also vying for the opportunity to represent the State of Louisiana 
at the 2004 Pre-Teen America National Competition, to be held July 2-7, 2004 
at the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA. There they will be competing for 
over $25,000.00 in educational bonds, prizes and awards.The participants 
competed in seven evaluation categories. 1) Academic Achievement, 2) 
Volunteer Service to Church and Community, 3) School Honors and Activities, 
4) Development of Personal Skills and Abilities, 5) General Knowledge, 6) 
Communicative Ability and 7) “On-Stage” Acknowledgment of Accomplishments.

The following are Senior Division titleholder and Runner-Ups:

2003 Pre-Teen Louisiana (Sr. Division): April Nelson - 11 years old from Mandeville, 
LA.

1st Runner-Ups (Tied): Carmen Ortiz - 12 years old from Shreveport, LA. 
and Rachel Young - 11 years old from Shreveport, LA.

2nd Runner-Ups (Tied): Alexandra Virgets - 12 years old from Baton Rouge, LA and Hallie Verret - 11 years old from Plaquemine, LA and Maddie Doucet - 12 years old from Baton Rouge, LA

3rd Runner-Ups (Tied): Shyla Vizier - 12 years old from Plattenville, LA and Elizabeth Ellington - 11 years old from Winnsboro, LA and Faith Weatherly - 11 years old from Zachary, LA and Jami LaGrange - 12 years old from Arnaudville, LA
